Kolkata, Jan 12 : The CBI on Friday said a former South Eastern Railway official, who was absconding for more than nine years, was arrested from West Bengal's Alipurduar in connection with misappropriation of construction materials involving an alleged loss of over Rs 27 lakh to the railway.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case in August 1999 and filed a charge-sheet in January 2002 against then Inspector of Works of Bhubaneswar Division of South Eastern Railway and four others.

The accused had been absconding since July 2008.

According to the investigating agency, there were allegations that the accused persons misappropriated steel rods, cement bags, etc., thereby causing an alleged loss of Rs 27.35 lakh.

The arrested accused would be produced before the Court of Special Judge of CBI cases at Bhubaneswar.
