Kohima, Oct 27 : Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya has "requested" Myanmar-based Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) to join the ongoing peace talks with the Centre, a Raj Bhavan communique said on Friday.
"P.B. Acharya values the formal joining of six NNPGs (Naga National Political Groups) in peace talks, and requested the NSCN-K to join the ongoing peace process so that a meaningful solution to the protracted Naga political problem is found at the earliest," the communique said.
The NSCN-K abrogated a 2001 ceasefire accord signed with the central government in March 2015, just a month before the truce was up for renewal.
Subsequently, Khaplang faction rebels went on a killing spree, attacking Indian soldiers in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
Appreciating the efforts of the government interlocutor for Naga talks, R.N. Ravi, to address the long-pending issue and the positive response from the Nagas, the Governor appealed to all NGOs, political parties and civil society to stand united to make the peace process a success.
This week, Ravi held talks with leaders of NSCN-IM, Naga National Council, Federal Government of Nagaland, NSCN (Reformation), National People's Government of Nagaland (Non-accord) and Government Democratic Republic of Nagaland (Non-Accord).
The central government and the Working Committee of six Naga groups officially began a political dialogue on September 27 in New Delhi.
