New Delhi, Oct 4 : An ex-serviceman dressed as a Delhi Police personnel snatched a BMW car at knife-point but was arrested later, police said on Wednesday.

Accused Bharat Singh, formerly with the Indian Navy and a resident of Mahendragarh in Haryana, was arrested on Wednesday while he was trying to tow away the car (UP-80-DZ-9292) with a crane.

A knife, police uniform and the complainant's mobile phone were also seized from him.

Car driver Khemchand complained to Vasant Kunj police that he was returning after dropping the Agra-based car owner at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Tuesday midnight when the BMW he was driving towards Gurugram was hijacked by a man at Rangpuri Gol Chakkar near Radisson Hotel in Mahipalpur.

He said the lone accused wearing a police uniform had signalled him to stop and sought a lift. Once inside, the complainant said, the accused snatched his phone by threatening him with a knife.

The accused then drove away with the car after forcing the driver out.

Following a tip-off, the accused was arrested and the car recovered from Khekri Daula toll plaza on National Highway 8 in Gurugram in Haryana, police said.

"Bharat Singh had tried to steal another car around a month back but was unsuccessful," Additional DCP (South) Chinmoy Biswal told IANS.
