Thiruvananthapuram, July 28 : CPI(M) Kerala unit has suspended party workers who were involved in the attack on BJP party office in the state capital in the wee hours of Friday morning.

The members placed under suspension include I P Binu, a CPI(M) councillor in the Thiruvananthapuram corporation.

Announcing the decision at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, CPI(M) state unit secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan condemned the attack on the BJP office and houses of BJP workers.

Stating that the CPI(M) did not endorse such attacks, he called on the party rank and file to refrain from acting like BJP workers.

“Our party workers fell prey to provocations by the BJP. However, even if there are provocations, our cadres should refrain from attacking their party offices” he said, adding that the BJP did not act when their workers vandalised the CPI(M) central committee office.

Kodiyeri also accused the BJP of unleashing violence in Kerala, saying that the RSS had hatched a clandestine scheme to destroy law and order in the state.

BJP’s Kerala unit office in the capital city was vandalised allegedly by CPI(M) workers and activists of the party’s youth and student outfits in the small hours of Friday morning.

Vehicles parked in the office compound were reportedly damaged by stones pelted by the miscreants.

There were also reports of skirmishes between members of the two parties and also attacks on houses of workers of both parties in different parts of Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday night.
