London, July 21 : English football club Newcastle United announced on Friday the signing of Spanish Javier Manquillo on a three-year contract from Atletico Madrid.

Recently promoted to the English Premier League (EPL), Newcastle said on its website that Manquillo has joined his new teammates, without giving any further details about the deal, reports Efe.

The 23-year-old Manquillo told his new club's account on Twitter "Some things are just better in black and white".

Manquillo, who started his career at La Liga Atletico Madrid, has played on loan at Liverpool, Marseille and Sunderland in the last three seasons.

"I'm very happy to be here. From the first moment that Rafa Benitez called me, I just knew that I had to come here, to such a big club," Manquillo told the Magpie's website.

"I've come here to work hard and give everything on and off the pitch. Hopefully then everything will go in the right direction," he added.

This is the fourth deal for Newcastle this transfer window, after English winger Jacob Murphy, Ghana international Christian Atsu and French centre-back Florian Lejeune.
