Islamabad, July 19 : At least four members of a family of ethnic Hazaras, part of the Shia Muslim minority, were killed and another was injured on Wednesday in Pakistan's Mastung area, officials said.

The attack took place around 6.30 a.m. when unidentified assailants opened fire on a vehicle in which the victims were travelling, some 40 km from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, city police spokesperson Sajad Hussain said.

Police said it was a sectarian attack against the Hazara Shia minority.

The attackers fled the site and were yet to be identified.

Sectarian attacks, especially against Shias, who account for 20 per cent of the Pakistani population, are relatively common in the country, despite a general dip in the number of terror incidents since 2014.
