Chennai, July 11 : Three children whose parents work in Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) have been selected to participate in 'Nuclear Kids' international programme in Russisa, said Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) on Tuesday.
According to a Rosatom statement here, R. Poorna Prakash, son of A.S. Manimozhi Haripriya from the Planning Department; R. Surya Kumar, son of Ramakrishnan from the Mechanical Department; and K. Hariharan, son of Kandeeban, have been selected for the programme.
'Nuclear Kids' is the international children's art project of Rosatom which annually brings together talented children of employees of the nuclear power industry from Russia and foreign partner-countries of Rosatom to set and play a bright musical show.
Led by R. Velupillai of Atomic Energy Central School in Kudankulam, the team of three students got qualified based on the skills exhibited in selection round organised recently at their school.
They will fly to Russia on July 13 and spend their time receiving intense training of about three weeks, along with fitness exercises including swimming, rehearsing and socialising with students from other nations.
The finale is to be held during the first week of August where over 50 participants are to enthral the audience with the spectacular show.
"The aim of the project is to strengthen the friendly relationships between children of employees of the nuclear industry from different countries, encourage their creativity, and provide a platform to get exposed to knowledge on latest developments in nuclear energy," Andrey Lebedev, Vice President for projects in South Asia of ASE Group of Companies (part of Rosatom), said in the statement.
India's atomic power plant operator Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) is setting up atomic power plants in Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district with Russian assistance.
