Thiruvananthapuram, May 18 : Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has called on the CPI(M)-led LDF government to tender an apology to the public over the appointment of Kerala Congress (B) patriarch R Balakrishna Pillai as the chairman of the forward caste commission.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Chennithala hit out at the LDF, pointing out the hypocrisy behind the appointment of Mr. Pillai as forward panel chief since they (LDF) had, while in opposition, raised a hue and cry over the UDF govt. appointing Pillai to the same post.
“Those who had poured scorn at the UDF for appointing Pillai as forward caste commission chairperson has now forgotten everything and done the same,” he said.
The authority to make this appointment was vested with the government but the LDF, which had opposed Pillai’s appointment as chairman during UDF’s tenure, should explain their decision for doing the same now., Chennithala said.
Chennithala also sought to know CPI(M) veteran V S Achuthanandan’s opinion on Mr. Pillai’s appointment.
Achuthanandan was at the forefront of the LDF’s protest against Mr. Pillai’s appointment as forward panel chief during UDF’s tenure.
The LDF government had decided to appoint R Balakrishna Pillai as chairman of the forward caste commission at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
