Kolkata, April 28 : Four gold biscuits weighing about 430 gm and worth Rs 12.49 lakh were seized by the Border Security Force (BSF) in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Friday, an official said.

Acting on a tip-off, the troopers from border outpost Hakimpur mounted a special vigil at Bithari market area in the morning, the official said.

"The BSF personnel observed suspicious movement of a person travelling on motorcycle towards Bithari market and detained him. On search of apprehended miscreant, four gold biscuits weighing approx 429.55 gm worth Rs 12,49,002 have been recovered from his possession," said an official of the BSF's South Bengal Frontier.

"The apprehended person, Shahabuddin Sardar, 26, and the seized gold biscuits has been handed over to Customs Office Tentulia for further legal action," he added.

The south Bengal frontier has seized 11.125 kg of gold (including this seizure) of approx value of Rs 3.19 crore and apprehended four gold smugglers so far this year.
