Thiruvananthapuram, March 15 : Technopark based Epica Studios and Bengaluru headquartered Xentrix Studios on Wednesday signed a strategic joint venture (JV) to produce high quality animated content for clients around the world.

The JV was inked in the presence of Aries Group, (a consortium of firms spearheaded by UAE based Sohan Roy under which Epica operates) and Nandish Domlur co-founder and CEO of Xentrix.

"We have the best infrastructure -- a state of the art studio set in 16,000 sq.ft space with 375 work stations in the Technopark campus, while Xentrix has the best expertise, techniques, animation tools and is currently engaged in working on numerous projects for its clients," said Roy to the media here.

"We have a staff strength of 600. We operate out of Bengaluru and recently opened in Manila. In 10 months time, we will have a strength of 250 animators here and in three years time, it will go up to 600 and we expect to have a business in excess of $25 million," said Domlur.

One big handicap that the animation industry in the country is facing is a shortage of animators and to start with the new JV is working on a twofold strategy, Virendra of Xentrix said.

"We will look for animators who are fresh from their course and give them the required training and then we will also find fresh talent interested in animation and train them," said Virendra.
