Thiruvananthapuram, March 06 : A report by the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) has flagged irregularities and violation of norms in the controversial decisions taken by the Oommen Chandy-led previous united democratic front (UDF) government during the fag-end of its tenure.

The UDF government’s orders pertaining to Methran Kayal, Kadamakudy medicity project, Kottayam corridor, Kottayam medicity hub, and acquisition of land for Harippad medical college were in violation of the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008, the CAG report reportedly states.

The report faults the UDF govt. over its failure to resume vast tracts of revenue land encroached upon by private persons.

The UDF government had not even put in place a proper mechanism to protect revenue land, the report says.

The CAG report also accuses there was lack of transparency in the process of issuing bar licenses during the UDF regime.

The UDF government issued licenses to 10 beer parlours along national highways in contravention of a central government direction of 2013 against sanctioning bars or beer parlours along national highways, the report says.

The CAG tabled the report in the assembly on Monday.

The decisions taken by the UDF government during the last six months of its tenure had kicked up a huge controversy.

A cabinet sub-committee constituted by the LDF government to look into orders passed by the UDF govt. since January 2016 had found gross irregularities in a majority of the orders.
