Ingolstadt (Germany), Feb 27 : Borussia Monchengladbach struck twice in the second half to secure a 2-0 win over FC Ingolstadt 04 while Hoffenheim earned a late 1-1 draw against Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga football tournament.

Borussia Monchengladbach returned to winning ways after edging relegation-threatened Ingolstadt 2-0 on the second-half goals from Lars Stindl and Andre Hahn here on Sunday evening, reports Xinhua news agency.

The match was off to a slow start and both goalkeepers had almost nothing to do in the opening half due to the lack of goal scoring opportunities.

Things changed after the restart as Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer was on guard to deny Marvin Matip's dangerous header on target 54 minutes into the game.

Monchengladbach cut a better figure in front of Ingolstadt's goal area as Lars Stindl's deflected a flicked on corner into the goal to open the scoring account on the hour mark.

Ingolstadt pressed frenetically for the equalizer and were caught off-guard in the dying seconds of the game, when Andre Hahn received an assist from substitute Mahmoud Dahoud before finishing off a counter-attack to seal the issue for the visitors.

Monchengladbach have now climbed one spot to the 10th place. Ingolstadt remain in the relegation zone at the 17th place.

Elsewhere, Sebastian Rudy scored the equaliser to help Hoffenheim hold hosts Schalke to a 1-1 draw.

Schalke enjoyed an excellent start in front of their home fans when Alessadnro Schoepf broke the deadlock following a square pass from Guido Burgstaller in the fifth minute.

Having taken the lead, Schalke adopted a defensive approach which allowed Hoffenheim to dominate proceedings.

Rudy eventually restored parity after heading home Steven Zuber's cross into the box in the closing stages.

Schalke have now slipped a couple of spots to the 12th position, while Hoffenheim stay in fourth place.
