Pune, Feb 11 : Quinten van den Berg, popularly known as DJ Quintino, says that the reactions of Indian audience and other countries is similar and different at the same time.

The Dutch DJ says that Indians emphasise on the artiste who is playing than just dance music in general.

Ranked 32 in the 'Top 100 DJs of the world' list by popular EDM magazine DJ Mag in 2016, Quintino performed here on Friday at the Vh1 Supersonic music fest.

"The reactions of the crowd when an artiste plays are same and different both. What is same is both Indian and other international crowd know the music they want to party to," Quintino told IANS here.

"What is different is that there are not so many festivals in India like there are internationally, so Indians really look forward to the performances here which is better for us," he said.

"In India they really know which artiste they like or not. It's not about the dance music style, it's about the artiste," the 31-year-old added.

Qunitino, who has also worked with top DJs like Hardwell, Tiesto, Afrojack, R3hab and Blasterjaxx, said that with the Indian audiences, it's more about who is playing because "if they like you they really like you as an artiste and not just by the genre".

"In other countries they like dance music. They will be like 'okay I will go to the festival' and here it's more like 'I'll go to see this artist, I like this DJ this singer'."
"Here we have a bigger fanbase," he added.

While the last leg to his India tour ends on Saturday in Mumbai, Quintino says the reaction of the crowd here has brought a "big smile" to his face. "People were jumping, raving and smiling while I performed."
He said he doesn't keep anything special in his mind as such but what he plays depends on how the crowd perceives it.

"I try to connect myself with the Indian audience and when I perform for an hour... I like to keep it open and creative. For me it's open minded and I just see the crowd and see what to do after judging the reaction of the crowd," he added.

Vh1 Supersonic, a three-day festival here, will end on Sunday at the Laxmi Lawns.

Other artistes who are yet to perform include Ash Roy, Arjun Vagale, Aly & Fila, Macklemore, Zedd and Lost Stories.
