Thiruvananthapuram, February 03 : Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has sought legal counsel from director general of prosecution Sreedharan Nair on a report prepared by additional chief secretary (finance) K M Abraham recommending removal of Jacob Thomas as VACB chief.

K M Abraham had submitted the report to chief secretary S M Vijayanand, who in turn forwarded it to the chief minister.

The report charges Jacob Thomas with dereliction of duty and having committed grave lapses while serving as the director of ports and causing a loss of Rs. 15 crore to the exchequer in the purchase of a dredger from a private company.

In contravention of rules, the purchase was made without floating a global tender.

The report recommends a high level probe against Mr. Thomas, as also the latter’s removal as VACB chief until the completion of the probe.
