New Delhi, Jan 5 : Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jitendra Singh condoled the death of North East Council (NEC) Member Gangmumei Kamei, who passed away on Thursday due to illness.

Kamei, an academician, was appointed as member of the NEC in July 2015. He was 77.

"Gangmumei Kamei's contribution to the north eastern region will always be remembered. He will not only be remembered as a professor, but also as a writer and historian whose area of specialisation was regional history of Northeast India and history of Manipur," said Singh in his condolence message, adding "his contribution to the North East region will keep inspiring us for times to come".

A condolence meeting in his honour was held at the NEC Secretariat, Shillong.

NEC is a body to efficiently channelise government funds for the socio-economic development of the northeast region of India.
