New Delhi, Aug 22 : As many as 56 rescue teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have so far rescued more than 26,000 people from flood affected areas, officials said on Monday.
"So far, NDRF teams have evacuated more than 26,400 people in various flood-prone areas of the country during this monsoon season. In addition, the teams have provided medical care to more than 9,100 people in various states," officials said.
They said rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected districts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh "are in full swing".
In Bihar, 16 flood rescue teams of NDRF are deployed.
As on August 21, NDRF teams evacuated 3,400 people in Didarganj, 580 in Bakhtiyarpur, 545 in Danapur, 380 in Chhapra, 355 in Vaishali and 15 persons in Maner, officials said.
In Uttar Pradesh, 11 flood rescue teams are deployed and have evacuated 275 at Ballia, 275 at Varanasi and 325 at Chitrakoot.
In addition to rescue work, the NDRF teams also distributed relief materials and provided medical care to the needy people.
In Madhya Pradesh, seven rescue teams are positioned who have evacuated 147 marooned persons to safer places in Rewa district.
In addition, one team of NDRF in Sikkim conducted rescue and relief operation at Tingbung and Lingdang villages in East Sikkim and evacuated more than 450 persons to safer places.
A round the clock NDRF control room in Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with other agencies.
