Srinagar, March 13 : The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, including the tourist resorts of Gulmarg and Sonmarg, received fresh snow while Jammu region recorded intermittent rain on Sunday.

There will be an overall decrease in rains across the state from Monday, Met department director Sonam Lotus said.

Gulmarg received 10 inches of snow and Sonmarg eight inches on Sunday, he said.

Fresh snow was recorded in all other higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, including heavy snow in Zanskar area of Ladakh region.

He said intermittent rain was recorded in Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley in the last 24 hours.

"Another western disturbance is likely to hit the state from March 16, due to which the weather will generally remain wet for nearly a week," the official said.

Western disturbance is a tropical storm witnessed in the Mediterranean Sea that causes widespread rain in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
