New Delhi, March 1 : A court here has framed charges against the then 2010 Commonwealth Games organising committee officials, including T.S. Darbari, in graft cases related to a baton relay in London ahead of the Delhi Games, sources said on Tuesday.
Central Bureau of Investigation Special Judge Ajay Kumar Jain framed charges against Darbari and five others on coiunts of cheating and forgery, and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
After the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial, the court fixed April 4 for recording the statements of prosecution witnesses.
CWG organising committee joint director general Darbari, the then deputy director general Sanjay Mahendroo, the then treasurer M. Jaychandran, London-based Ashish Patel and his two private firms - AM Car and Van Hire and AM Films - are in the dock in the case.
The CBI charge sheet said that "in order to justify the allotment of work to Ashish Patel's firm, the accused officials prepared various forged documents".
The agency said the officials did not follow the standard tendering process and instead favoured a firm of Patel.
All the accused persons are at present out on bail.
"The accused officials prepared fake notes on the proceedings and placed forged emails in support of the proposal for engagement of the London-based transport firm," the charge sheet said.
It said they "acted dishonestly and fraudulently" to justify allotment of work related to first-aid, additional barriers, mobile temporary toilets, and power generation to the firm at exorbitant rates.
