Kochi, February 06 : Congress Working Committee member A K Antony has tipped the UDF government to retain power in the forthcoming assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Saturday, Antony predicted continuity of governance in the next elections, saying that no other government has initiated as many development works as the present regime.

The Congress veteran opined that the people of the State would take into account all aspects while exercising their franchise.

He termed as commendable the steps taken by the Oommen Chandy government on the welfare front.

On the Opposition LDF’s protests over the solar scam, Antony said that the Opposition should show patience until the judicial commission looking into the scam submits its report.

He also cautioned the Left front against taking at face value the depositions made before the commission by an individual who stands accused in ‘over a dozen cases’.

The LDF had been dismissing as a blatant lie the allegation levelled by solar scam accused Saritha S Nair that they offered Rs.10 crore to her. But, they have no problem believing the allegations made by the same woman against the government, Antony quipped.

He also dismissed the suggestion that the litany of allegations against the government would hurt its chances in the assembly polls barely months away.

Even though the Bharatiya Janata Party made giant strides in the recently held local body elections in the State, Antony was dismissive of the party’s prospects in the ensuing assembly polls, saying that the BJP would not even be able to open its account.
