Agartala, Oct 6 : Two men have been arrested in Tripura for allegedly killing their mother for objecting to their unlawful activities, a police official said on Tuesday.

Santa Saha, 56, was murdered on August 17 at their government quarter at Shyamali Bazar, a high security zone on the outskirts of the capital city.

According to a police official, after the state police remained clueless over the killing, the state government handed over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

"A CID team on Monday night arrested Dipjoy Saha, 30, and his younger brother Bitonjoy Saha, 27," he said.

The officials are now interrogating the two men, who, according to the investigators, might have killed their mother with the help of hired killers.

"According to the preliminary probe, the men might have killed Santa Saha as they became involved in various illicit activities and their mother tried to restrain them from doing any wrongdoing," the official added.

The victim's husband Dipak Saha is an engineer in the state police department.
