Panaji, Aug 29 : School students will soon be exposed to the lives led by soldiers in border areas, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said here on Saturday.

Speaking at a public function in Panaji, Parrikar said the defence ministry and the human resource development ministry would soon develop a programme on the lines of 'Know Your Army' to ensure that students from across India see the country's borders themselves.

"Like the Know Your Army (programme), they should also know about the borders... School children from all states should visit the borders during their holidays," Parrikar said, adding he had discussed the idea with HRD Minister Smriti Irani, during an official visit to Bhuj in Gujarat earlier this week.

"The objective behind the programme is to ensure that our next generation should know what our soldiers do (at the border)," Parrikar said.

Parrikar said India had unique borders, right from the blazing desert in Kutch to virtually inhospitable Himalayan heights along the India-China border.
