Lucknow, Aug 27 : Hundreds of aged widows living in Vrindavan and Varanasi will send 1,000 rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The widows, spending the twilight years of their lives in ashrams, have specially designed rakhis for Modi.

Widows living in Meerasahabhagini Ashram in Vrindavan have made rakhis displaying pictures of Modi. These will be sent to the prime minister's house.

A group of elderly widows led by Manu Ghosh started making rakhis about a fortnight ago, officials of the ashram told IANS
"We have a target of sending around 1,000 rakhis to our prime minister," said 90-year-old Manu 'Maa', who visited Modi's house to tie rakhi on his wrist along with four other widows from Virandavan and Varanasi last year.

NGO Sulabh International takes care of around 1,500 widows in Varanasi, Vrindavan and Kedarnath Valley in Uttarakhand.
