New Delhi, Aug 27 : Vikas Dagar alias Vicky, who tried to kill a Delhi legislator in 2012 and was on the run since, has been arrested along with two of his associates after a brief gunfight with Delhi Police, an officer said on Thursday.

Vicky, 31, was arrested on Wednesday from Kanjhawala Chowk area. He was also wanted in several cases of extortion, murder, attempts to murder, and robberies in Delhi and Haryana.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajiv Ranjan said: "One foreign made .32 bore pistol with five live and two used cartridges, four country-made guns along with six cartridges were recovered from them," official said.

A car they were travelling in was seized, he added.

An First Information Report for obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, attempt to murder), acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention were lodged against them, the officer said.

Vicky, who hails from Jharoda Kalan village in Najafgarh, was earlier arrested in 2012 for allegedly attempting to kill then Najafgarh legislator late Bharat Singh.

"Vicky was released on a two-day parole in April, but he jumped it to eliminate Krishan Pehalwan, elder brother of Bharat Singh," Ranjan said.

"Bharat Singh had assaulted and insulted Vicky's paternal aunt over some issue. Since then, he and his associates have enmity with the legislator and his family," he added.
