Thiruvananthapuram / December 18 : The UDF government seems to running out of room to duck for cover. Even as the opposition has ramped up their protest demanding Finance Minister K M Mani's ouster from the cabinet over the bar bribery allegations, K B Ganesh Kumar MLA has fired fresh salvos at the ruling UDF coalition, of which his own party Kerala Congress(B) is a member.

Emphasising that there is no question of his retracting the allegations of corruption against the personal staff of PWD minister V K Ibrahim Kunju, Ganesh Kumar has said that if need be he will approach the Prime Minister demanding a CBI probe into the corruption in the PWD ministry. Reiterating that he has in his possession irrefutable evidence to prove his allegations, he said he will furnish it before the anti-graft body Lokayukta since the Chief Minister had denied him an opportunity to produce the evidence before an Assembly Committee.

Even as he rubbished rumours of his party quitting the UDF, he came down heavily on the government saying none is satisfied with the UDF rule. He also pointed out that he had the backing of all including the Leader of Opposition V S Achuthanandan in his fight against corruption.

K B Ganesh Kumar had last week launched a scathing attack on the PWD ministry on the floor of the Assembly triggering rumours of his party switching over to the LDF fold. He had accused the PWD ministry of widespread corruption running into of crores of rupees, naming three personal staff members of minister Ibrahim Kunju as the chief perpetrators.

Abdul Rasheed, Abdul Rahim and Najimudhin were the staff members named by Ganesh Kumar. The MLA had also charged the staff members with insulting him when he approached the PWD ministry with a request for road widening.

For the time being at least K B Ganesh Kumar and his party are playing their cards close to the chest, with the MLA putting the UDF government in a tight spot with his allegations on the one hand and his party-chairman father R Balakrishna Pillai feigning ignorance on the other. However, there are many who wonder if this is a precursor to the Kerala Congress(B) renewing their push to have their sole MLA re-inducted in the cabinet.
