Abu Dhabi, Dec 4 : Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) deputy prime minister and interior minister, announced Thursday that Abu Dhabi police have arrested the killer of a US woman teacher on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Saif told a press conference that the veiled suspect, an Emirati woman, had tried to plant a primitive bomb in front of the house of a resident US doctor, but the police dismantled it after one of the doctor's sons discovered it, official WAM news agency reported.

A veiled woman in Arabic sheila and Niqab (face cover) was filmed on surveillance cameras in a shopping mall Monday entering and leaving the women's bathroom, a Xinhua report said. The suspect left a trace of blood in the bathroom where she allegedly killed the American woman with a knife.

Abu Dhabi police released minutes of video footage showing the arrest by a special forces police squad in the suspect's villa which were shown on local and regional television channels. The video also shows traces of blood on the wheel of the suspect's car.

Sheikh Saif warned that severe deterrent penalties await whoever tries to tamper with the security of the UAE.
