Moscow, Nov 28 : Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday said the use of ultimatums and sanctions in talks with Russia are unacceptable and futile.

Talking to Anadolu Agency, ahead of his visit to Turkey starting Dec 1, Putin said western sanctions are illegitimate and threaten international stability, Xinhua reported.

"We urge (the West) to abandon the distorted logic of restrictions and threats and to search for mutually acceptable solutions to outstanding issues," Putin was quoted by the Interfax as saying.

He said that Russia would continue supporting the governments of Syria, Iraq and other countries in the region in the fight against extremists.

Moscow understands the burden Turkey has taken as the armed conflicts are ravaging its neighbouring countries, Putin said, pointing at activities of the Islamic States the major threat.

"Containment of that threat must be conducted on the base of the UN Security Council's resolutions and strict adherence to international law, state sovereignty and non-interference in domestic affairs, without hidden agenda," Putin said.
