Bogota, Sep 7 : The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) has demanded the government should recognise the rights of its fighters who died in the country's civil war since 1930.

The FARC's demand came in the wake of grant of comprehensive rights for some victims in Colombia's internal armed conflict, Xinhua reported.

The FARC sought the rights of its guerrillas killed in the conflict be recognised the same way as of those from other parties involved in the war.

"Other issues to be addressed are the treatment of combatants and also the situation of political prisoners and victims of the conflict," the FARC said in a statement.

It asked for special recognition to be provided to victims from political unions, social groups, as well as peasants, indigenous communities and African descendants.

The FARC said that as proof of its willingness to attain peace and social justice, it will assume responsibilities but expect the same from the nation's political parties, business groups, large land-owners, agricultural sector and transnational corporations.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos' government began peace talks with the FARC, the country's largest rebel group, in December 2012 in Cuba.

But, the government and the rebels are yet to come to any conclusion.
