Kolkata, July 22 : Thailand Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Tuesday went around the Rabindra Bharati University named after Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and disclosed she had a childhood wish to study at Santiniketan under his tutelage.

"It was only when I grew up that I realised that he has passed away," the 59-year-old princess said during an interaction with teachers and students of the university at its campus in north Kolkata's Jorasanko, where Tagore was born.

Sirindhorn, who studied Sanskrit in her post graduate course and holds a doctorate in educational development, is an accomplished musician and mesmerised the audience at a function by playing classical notes on a stringed instrument.

On a day's trip to Kolkata, Sirindhorn visited its landmarks like the Victoria Memorial and the Indian Museum. She also went to the army's eastern command headquarters at Fort William.
