Shivteg Singh Vanishes While His Cohorts Attempt to Rebuild His Reputation
IN-DEPTH COVERAGE ON ALLEGATIONS AGAINST SHIVTEG SINGH
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO (KP) - On May 11, 2014, Panthic.org (Khalsa Press) published a news article regarding well-known ‘missionary’ kathavachak Shivteg Singh after he was discovered having an illicit affair with a married bibi Dhadhi group member during his visit at Ontario Khalsa Darbar, popularly known as Dixie Gurdwara.
After this affair was exposed publicly, Shivteg Singh, who often performed katha at the historic Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, embarrassingly fled the Gurdwara Sahib complex and kept a low profile until he momentarily re-appeared for a day or so at the heretical ‘Sikh Lehar Center’ - often dubbed as the ‘Sikh Zehar Center’ due to its anti-Panthic activities.
Interestingly, Shivteg has not given any public statement or clarification regarding the affair or the cancellation of his programs and his eventual dismissal from Ontario Khalsa Darbar in May.
A week after the affair was exposed, two Toronto based Punjabi language tabloids, Punjab Daily (editor: Sukhminder Hansra, Toronto), and Khalsa News (editor: Gurdev Sandhaywalia) attempted to depict the affair as baseless and untrue, and both of the tabloids claimed that Shivteg Singh was innocent of any wrong doing and instead tried to blame a visiting ragi jatha for ‘fabricating’ the entire incident.
Misinformation Campaign by Neo-Khalistani Lobby
This is not the first time these Punjabi tabloids have attempted to misconstrue facts to confuse the sangat – their track records speaks for themselves. Their desperate attempt to whitewash the Shivteg Singh affair is just one example of just how ludicrous the standard is for these Punjabi tabloids who claim to publish fiction under the guise of “journalism.”
The lobby that is fervently looking for a way to salvage Shivteg’s image by hook or by crook is well known for their own embarrassing scandals of infidelity.
Sandhaywalia recently posted an article on his website written by Kirpal Bathinda from India, along with a copy of a handwritten letter by the Bibi Amandeep Kaur whom Shivteg Singh had the affair with. Ridiculously, Amandeep is now claiming that she and Shivteg are actually cousins and this was just an innocent ‘brother-sister’ sibling relationship and nothing further.
Both Bathinda and Sandhaywalia now absurdly claim that Panthic.org has fabricated the entire Shivteg Singh, Amandeep Kaur affair, and assert that it is part of some larger conspiracy to defame their missionary parchariks.
Shivteg & Amandeep Kaur Affair 100% True According to witnesses and Ontario Khalsa Darbar Directors
The Panthic.org news article published on May 11th, 2014 is based on 100% accurate information that was obtained by our correspondents and liaisons and includes interviews and statements from witnesses and various Gurdwara directors, and committee members. Panthic.org stands behind this news article unequivocally, as we have evidence that not only Shivteg Singh was in an intimate physical relationship with Amandeep Kaur, but also that the Ontario Khalsa Darbar committee members knew about this relationship and tried to cover it up for legal or personal reasons.
Affair with Amandeep Kaur Began Months Ago
According to eyewitnesses, including the Dhadhi group’s sarangi master, Bhupinder Singh, the affair started earlier this year when Shivteg Singh was staying at the Ontario Khalsa Darbar and had promised to secure Gurdwara sponsorship from the Vancouver area for Amandeep Kaur.
After Shivteg left the Ontario Khalsa Darbar in February, he continued to keep in contact with Amandeep Kaur on a daily basis. Members of the dhadhi group observed that Shivteg Singh was routinely calling on their phones in order to speak to Amandeep Kaur, and in turn would spend hours chatting. When the other members of her group objected to this type of behavior, Amandeep Kaur then started using a separate cell phone that she borrowed from a sevadar and continued to communicate with Shivteg Singh despite the group’s disapproval.
This inappropriate communication between the married bibi and Shivteg Singh continued on for several months until he returned back to Ontario Khalsa Darbar in May - unexpectedly almost a week ahead of his scheduled arrival.
Shivteg’s Return to Dixie Gurdwara
Since Shivteg Singh was slated to perform ‘katha’ at Gurdwara Sahib for the entire month of May, he was given a special room upstairs. Amandeep Kaur was staying with the other two Dhadhi Bibi on the main floor of the guest house. The long time sarangi master, Bhupinder Singh’s room was across the hall from the bibis.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Shivteg Singh requested Bhupinder Singh to switch rooms with him so he could be across the hall from Amandeep Kaur, instead of upstairs.
Bhupinder Singh, who at this time was already wary of Shivteg’s odd behavior refused to vacate his assigned room and told Shivteg Singh that he needed to stay in the room he was assigned to upstairs.
From day one, everyone, including the various visting ragi jathays, at the guest house began to notice that both Shivteg and Amandeep were spending a lot of time together.
Despite being admonished by the members of her dhadhi group, Amandeep continued to spend more and more time with him and was observed constantly bringing food and refreshments over to Shivteg’s room and spending hours inside.
The tryst between the well-known kathakar and Amandeep Kaur continued until it was exposed to the wider public around the first week of May.
Shivteg and Amandeep’s Relationship Discovered
The illicit nature of their affair was finally uncovered when one of the sevadars who was part of the ragi jatha that performed security duty at Gurdwara Sahib complex and also lived in the same guest house.
Several other witnesses stated that during a weekday afternoon all of the sewadars had left the guest residence and were heading to the main Gurdwara complex for refreshments. With all the sewadars gone, only Amandeep Kaur and Shivteg Singh were left in the guesthouse at this time. Incidentally, one of the sevadars who performed security duty at Gurdwara Sahib and was staying on the same floor returned to the guest house and happened to be walking upstairs by Shivteg Singh’s room when he witnessed Shivteg and Amandeep kissing and embracing. He could see inside the room easily as the door has not been shut. Shivteg and Amandeep must have assumed that no one else was in the guest house.
According to the eyewitness, Shivteg’s back was towards the door, and the bibi was facing the door when they were kissing. Facing the door, Amandeep Kaur quickly realized that her explicit rendezvous with Shivteg Singh had now been accidently discovered by the sewadar.
Amandeep Kaur Threatens the Sevadar
Stunned by what he saw, initially the sevadar kept mum about the incident but finally broke his silence after Amandeep Kaur approached him later on and began to threaten and intimidate him and sternly warned him to keep quiet about what he observed.
After receiving threats from Amandeep Kaur, the sewadar approached his other companions who then reported the entire incident to the Gurdwara committee members.
The news of the adulterous affair quickly spread throughout the Gurdwara complex, and beyond. Realizing his folly, Shivteg eventually fled the Gurdwara complex, and was seen fleeing the scene on foot by many witnesses. Soon after afterwards, Amandeep Kaur was asked to vacate the Gurdwara premises also.
The day Amandeep Kaur left the Gurdwara and collected all her baggage; she was openly chastised by the two main Dhadhi bibis for tarnishing their jatha’s reputation with her reckless behavior. They scolded her for not listening to them when they had repeatedly warned her about being so close to Shivteg Singh, but she shamelessly ignored them.
Ontario Khalsa Darbar Directors and Committee Directors Members Meet with Sangat
As reported earlier, on May 11th, 2014, an impromptu meeting was organized between members of the local Toronto Sangat, representatives of several Panthic organizations and Dixie Gurdwara Directors and committee members.
This meeting was attended by the following Gurdwara directors: Avtar Singh Punia
Sukhdev Singh, Kuldeep Singh Lacchar, Harbans Singh Jandali and former committee president Jasjit Singh Bhullar among others. The sangat that was present during that meeting was notified that:
• The Khalsa Ontario Darbar management committee had received a complaint from the Gurdwara sevadars that the visiting kathavachak, Shivteg Singh had committed a blunder and was no longer allowed to do sewa at the Gurdwara premises.
• The Gurdwara directors stated that they had investigated the entire incident, and they had proof of Shivteg Singh’s misconduct, and anyone requiring this information could contact the committee directly.
• Committee member Avtar Singh Punia apologized for letting Shivteg Singh to leave the scene without due process after his affair was exposed. Punia reportedly apologized to everyone for taking this unilateral step.
• There were some commotion among the directors and committee members regarding Punia’s actions. Some of the directors complained that Avtar Singh Punia was trying to protect Shivteg by making unilateral decisions without their knowledge. They complained such decisions can only be made with full consultation with all the Gurdwara directors in a formal meeting.
When this meeting occurred, Shivteg had already fled from the Gurdwara premises, and his acquaintance Amandeep Kaur had also packed up her luggage and left. The Dhadi Jatha, consisting of two other bibis and a sarangi master continued to stay at the Gurdwara premises for many days after Shivteg and Amandeep Kaur had left. Hansra and Sandhawalia failed to mention any of this information in their tabloids.
Sarangi master Bhupinder Singh also shared with Panthic.org that when Avtar Singh Punia tried to chastise him them for having Bibi Amandeep Kaur as an orator of his Dhadhi jatha and asked him why did he bring a bibi of this character with your jatha to this gurdwara?”) Bhupinder Singh as that time quipped “didn’t your committee know of Shivteg’s character when you invited him - this is just not about the bibi only?”
Despite, the overwhelming substantiation and conformation of Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur’s illicit affair, both Hansra and Sandhaywalia have tried to orchestrate a whitewash and cover-up of the entire incident. In a shameless and desperate attempt they have even tried to frame the sevadars who himself witnessed the illicit rendezvous between Shivteg and Amandeep Kaur.
Despite, all the misinformation being spread by the Hansra/Sandhaywali duo, the following points need to be pondered upon:
• The committee & durectrs members clearly knew about the affair, investigated into it, and publicly stated that they had all the evidence on Shivteg’s misbehavior on file.
• Both Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur were dismissed from performing any future duties at Ontario Khalsa Darbar.
• Both Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur have NOT returned to Ontario Khalsa Darbar since their affair was exposed to the sangat.
• Ontario Khalsa Darbar committee members have adamantly denied giving any ‘clean chit’ to Shivteg Singh or Amandeep Kaur and have privately stated they are disappointed at the behavior of both Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur.
• Several Ontario Khalsa Directors stated that no clean chit was given to Shivteg Singh, it was wouldn't he have been performing katha at the Gurdwara for the remainder of his scheduled time in May?
• The remaining members of the Dhadhi Jatha that Amandeep Kaur was part of continued to stay at the Ontario Khalsa Darbar long after this incident, until the 22nd/23rd of May.
• Most interestingly, the ragi jathas which both Hansra and Sandhaywalia have tried to blame everything on continues to do seva at the Ontario Khalsa Darbar to this day. The allegations framed on them were concocted by the pro-Shivteg lobby.
• The directors mentioned that they received calls from many Gurdwaras, and shared their information with them, including with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) representatives, who later dismissed Shivteg Singh from his katha duties at Bangla Sahib.
Despite all of the above facts, Hansra’s Punjab Daily and Sandhaywalia’s Khalsa News have attempted to depict the affair as baseless, and caste the blame on innocent sewadars who fearlessly reported what they witnessed between Shivteg and Amandeep to the management committee.
There is no doubt that the management committee took appropriate steps initially by dismissing both Shivteg and Amandeep from the Gurdwara premises, but due to political pressure and internal politics tried to hush up the incident by releasing a vaguely worded press release on May 15th that stated that there was some “problem/quarrel” between two jathas and those individuals had been asked to leave the Gurdwara premises, and the sangat was asked to not rake up the issue.
No individuals were named in the actual press release, but it is evident that the two individuals that were dismissed from the Gurdwara premises were none other than Kathakar Shivteg Singh and the orator of the Dhadhi jatha, Bibi Amandeep Kaur.
Interestingly, the names of individuals of Gurdwara sewadars being tarnished by Hansra and Sandhaywalia were never involved in any wrongdoing or dismissed from the Gurdwara Sahib, yet certain elements continue spew accusations against them.
Playing into the hands of this lobby is Amandeep Kaur herself, who is now claiming to be Shivteg Singh’s cousin, is desperately attempting to misrepresent the entire illicit affair she was involved in as just a normal relationship between a brother and a sister. Her handwritten letter was printed by the pro-heretical writer Kirpal Bathinda who himself is clueless about what actually transpired between those two individuals at the Ontario Khalsa Darbar.
Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur Should Return to Ontario Khalsa Darbar If they Claim to be Innocent
Oddly, Shivteg Singh has not given a single statement since the affair was exposed publicly. Khalsa Press tried to contact him multiple times via telephone and e-mail, but so far he has refused to answer our queries.
If Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur are innocent then they both should demand that Ontario Khalsa Darbar committee allow them back on their stage and demand those who ‘tarnished’ their names be punished accordingly. After all Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur were scheduled to stay and perform at the Gurdwara for the remainder of the month.
In conclusion, we reiterate, that Khalsa Press directly contacted the members the management committee and members of the Dhadhi Jatha, and the Gurdwara sevadars who witnessed objectionable acts between Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur, and we have more than sufficient evidence in terms of audio recordings and statements to confidently conclude that the well-known kathavachak, Shivteg Singh was involved in an illicit affair with a married bibi, Amandeep Kaur.
On May 11th, members of the Gurdwara’s management committee also came to the same conclusion in the presence of various members of the sangat and Panthic organizations. The three remaining members of the Dhadhi Jatha also hold Shivteg Singh and Amandeep Kaur responsible for fiasco that has tarnished their group for the long term.
Reportedly, there is intense pressure on the witnesses and committee members to redact their statements in order to exonerate Shivteg Singh, yet the ban on Shivteg Singh from performing on the Ontario Khalsa Darbar is still being enforced.
