Indian equities extended losses in noon trade on Monday led by losses in realty, metal and oil & gas stocks whereas consumer durable stocks registered a gain.
At 12.38 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 173.02 points or 0.66% at 25,953.73 with 24 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 47.05 points or 0.60% at 7,743.40 with 36 components falling.
Major losers were Coal India (3.15%), Hindalco (1.82%), Tata Steel (1.73%), and RIL (1.61%).
Top gainers were Axis Bank (1.18%), BHEL (0.73%), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (0.62%), and Maruti Suzuki (0.23%).
The BSE Midcap index was at 9146.29 down by 31.92 points or by 0.35%.
The Realty index was at 1,881.88, down by 43.12 points or by 2.24%. The Metal index was at 13,029.32, down by 170.78 points or by 1.29%. The Oil & Gas index was at 10,747.48, down by 96.49 points or by 0.89%.
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 8,477.74, up by 9.89 points or by 0.12%.
