International SOS Foundation Announces Winners Of 2016 Duty Of Care Awards

The winners of the 2016 Duty of Care Awards were announced at a gala event in Hong Kong on Thursday, 16 June. Hosted by The International SOS Foundation, the awards honoured organisations which made a significant contribution to protecting their people travelling or working remotely.

Judges reviewed more than 100 entries, representing more than 18 industries and from organisations in 29 countries.1 Organisations submitted nominations regarding their Duty of Care programmes in the following categories: Innovation, Thought Leadership, Resilient Care, Communication, and Partnership.2

 
Stephen Sui, JP, Undersecretary of Labour and Welfare, Hong Kong, SAR, set the tone of the evening with the keynote speech.
 
Arnaud Vaissié, Co-Founder, CEO & Chairman of International SOS, represented the International SOS Foundation* and commended all the participants for their leadership, foresight, creativity and implementation of their health, safety, security and well-being programmes.
 
Organisations receiving special acknowledgement at the 2016 Duty of Care Awards:
 
Innovation Award Winner: Thomson Reuters was honoured, with judges citing the development of their in-house Intelligence Dashboard to support incident management and monitor trends in travel risk management.
 
United World College of SE Asia and CBM were highly commended.
 
Thought Leadership Award Winner: OCBC Bank was celebrated for their unique approach to Operational Travel Risk Management to prevent exposure to physical security and medical threats.
 
Chinese International School, Bosal and CGIAR Consortium were highly commended.
 
Resilient Care Award Winner: The Dow Chemical Company was recognised for its comprehensive wellness programme for Sadara, a joint-venture with Saudi Aramco where 1,500 employees and dependents representing 30 nationalities were relocated to Saudi Arabia.
 
Harris Corporation, Environmental Resources Management (ERM) and Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd were highly commended.
 
Communication Award Winner: SAP SE was awarded the Communication Award for its range of Travel Safety and Security awareness campaigns that reached 75,000 employees in 180 countries.
 
Nippon Steel & Sumikin Eng. Company Ltd. and Sony Pictures Entertainment were highly commended.

Partnership Award Winner: Alcoa, Inc. received the Partnership Award for their quick response to safeguard their employees and their families on Ebola prevention practices at its Guinea locations.
 
Highly commended in the Partnerships category were Johnson & Johnson, Walgreens and English School Foundation (ESF).
 
Hong Kong Duty of Care Awards:

Mr Louis Pong, CEO of the Employers Federation Hong Kong, provided an opening speech for the local awards.
 
The Hong Kong awards were presented by Mr Donald Tong, JP, Commissioner for Labour, Hong Kong, SAR and Mr Ricky Wong, Vice-Chairman, Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Highly Commended winners include: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, CLP, English Schools Foundation, PCCW and Pizza Hut.
 
The judging panel included internationally recognised leaders in fields related to Duty of Care.3

Established in 2011, the International SOS Foundation ― Ambassadors for Duty of Care www.internationalsosfoundation.org – has the goal of improving the safety, security, health and welfare of people working abroad or on remote assignments through the study, understanding and mitigation of potential risks. The escalation of globalisation has enabled more individuals to work across borders and in unfamiliar environments; exposure to risks which can impact personal health, security and safety increases along with travel.
 
The foundation is a registered charity and was started with a grant from International SOS. It is a fully independent, non-profit organisation.
