Instant messaging service firm WhatsApp on Tuesday rolled out a 'live location' feature, which will be available for both Android and iPhone users in coming weeks.
The new feature allows user to share their location with a person or group under the option ‘Share Live Location’ and give them the choice of how long they want to share, the company said in a blog post.
People can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location timer simply expire.
How it will work
The user just needs to go to the 'Share Live Location' option and chose for how long they want to share and hit tap. Once this is done, each person will be able to see the person's real-life location on the map.
If more than one person shares their live location in a group, all locations will be visible on the map.
The Facebook-owned company has one billion active users around the world with India having the largest users of 200 million.
With this WhatsApp will join other social media companies that allow live location sharing such as Telegram, Snapchat, Apple’s iMessage and Facebook’s Messenger along with Google Maps.
