Mumbai's Taj Lands End & Sea Rock Hotel likely to be connected by a skywalk

A skywalk connecting Mumbai's Taj Lands End and the upcoming Sea Rock Hotel, where the parent firm - IHCL - is proposing to build the bridge, may soon become a reality, according to a report in The Economic Times.

The bridge is likely to be exclusive for clients and will cover a distance of less than 2 km.  The Sea Rock Hotel, which is located opposite Taj Lands End hotel in Bandra Bandstand, has been shut since the 1993 bomb blasts  and was demolished in 2010.

IHCL, according to the paper, has got the go-ahead for the bridge approved by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA).

"We have received all the necessary permissions to connect the two hotels and build new rooms in both the hotels,'' sources told the paper. "A bridge will give customers of both the hotels access to a wide variety of restaurants and other facilities.'' The sources also pointed that the bridge will be convenient for their clients and it will add 'novelty' to the property.

IHCL has got the plan approved by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority, according to the report.

"Mumbai has a paucity of good luxury business hotels. There's a clear potential for adding more rooms, and it makes sense for Indian Hotels Co to expand with Sea Rock in the same location. It will provide economies of scale and better utilisation of property overheads," experts told the newspaper.
