Country's largest commercial vehicle maker Tata Motors sold 46,349 units in January, lower by 1 percent compared with 47,035 units sold in same month last year. It was impacted by commercial vehicles sales but passenger vehicles volumes were strong at 21 percent due to strong demand for Tiago.
"Passenger vehicles, in the domestic market, recorded sales at 12,907 units, with a growth of 21 percent over January 2016, due to continued strong demand for the Tata Tiago," the Tata Group company said in its filing.
It further said recently launched lifestyle utility vehicle Tata Hexa also received an encouraging response in the month gone by.
Domestic commercial vehicles sales in January 2017 declined 7 percent to 28,521 units on yearly basis, but construct segment continued to grow strongly by 26.5 percent year-on-year as road construction continued to drive demand.
Tata Motors said IM&HCV (intermediate medium & heavy commercial vehicle) sales grew by 12 percent. The M&HCV segment is witnessing a surge in enquiry levels, after a weak Q3, it added.
Exports declined 13 percent year-on-year to 4,921 units in January 2017.
