Ahead of the transition to BSIV-compliant vehicles from April 1, oil marketing companies have confirmed that retail consumers will not have to pay extra for petrol and diesel.
“They [consumers] will continue to pay the same price of the higher grade products – diesel and petrol,” an oil marketing company source was quoted as saying by The Financial Express.
The state-run oil marketing companies are also fully equipped to provide the BSIV-compliant at their 53,500 retail pumps across the country, three months after starting the process to rinse dealer storage tanks, pipelines and depots, according to OMC executives.
IOC, BPCL and HPCL have all readied their 12 million-tonne capacity storage facilities.
BSIV vehicles are more environment-friendly and fuel-efficient. The emissions from BSIV compliant vehicles will be almost half of what BSIII compliant vehicles emit. Owing to the usage of better technology, prices of BS-IV vehicles will rise by 2-3 percent after April 1.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rattled automakers when it banned the sale and production of vehicles with BSIII engines from April 1.
According to the figures submitted by industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) to the Supreme Court, vehicle manufacturers currently have an inventory of 8,24,275 BS III vehicles.
Motorcycles, scooters, trucks, buses and three-wheelers have been affected by the order, with all cars having already been upgraded to the BS-IV norms.
