Coca-Cola to soon introduce health drink 'coconut water' for the calorie conscious

Coke is testing its US coconut water brand ‘Zico‘ in India. The company has been importing the product for testing.

With more and more Indians turning health/calorie conscious, preference for health drinks that are non-sugary, fizz free has gone up significantly and to satisfy the palate of these people Coca-Cola is preparing to launch packaged coconut water.Coke is testing its US coconut water brand ‘Zico’ in India. The company has been importing the product for testing, said an official aware of this development to Economic Times.Meanwhile, both Coke and PepsiCo are finding themselves in troubled waters in India with some traders associations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala refusing to sell their soft drinks with an accusation that the companies were drawing too much groundwater and putting further pressure on states facing drought situation.Worldwide, packaged coconut water is fastest growing beverage category. The Zico acquisition by Coke in 2013 has helped the company reach the top spot in that segment.According to the information posted on its website, the company says Zico positioned as ‘natural replenishment’ is gaining good traction world over.
