The macro-economic forecast is showing some improvement globally, but your salary cheque may not get fatter this year.

A survey by Aon India shows that average salary hikes this year will be around 9.4 percent. This is just marginally higher than the 9.3 percent estimated last year. Compare this to 2007 when the average estimate was 15.4 percent, in fact, just last year, salary hike estimate dropped to single digits for the first time in a decade and seems like it will stay in this way this year as well.

However, if you are top performer in your company, then you can expect an average salary hike of over 15 percent. This is nearly 2 times the pay increase of an average performer.

The survey also points out that the "bell curve" is getting flatter with every passing year--- but, it also shows that there is a constant march towards ensuring "higher differentiation".

In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Anandorup Ghose, Partner Performance, Rewards & Organization at Aon India Consulting discussed the findings of this study.
