Adani Petronet (Dahej) Port Pvt (APPPL), a joint venture of Adani Enterprise and Petronet LNG, has developed the Dahej port in a phased manner. The third phase expansion will entail raising cargo-handling capacity to 23 mtpa from 11.7 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and development of other supporting infrastructure.

"As per the recommendations of the expert appraisal committee (EAC), the environment ministry has given environmental and CRZ (coastal regulation zone) clearance for expansion of Adani Petronet's Dahej port in Bharuch," a senior government official said.

The environment clearance to the project has been given subject to certain conditions. The cost of the expansion project is estimated to be Rs 464.32 crore, the official said.

Among the conditions specified, the company has been asked to carry out the construction activity strictly according to the provisions of CRZ Notification, 2011.

The company should ensure there is no damage to the existing mangroves patches near site and there is free flow of water to avoid damage to the mangroves. It should also ensure that no creeks or rivers should be blocked due to any activities at the project site.

Adani Petronet has been asked to source the material for reclamation only through government-approved quarry, and quarried material should be free from all kinds of contamination and high organic carbon content.

The company has been asked to submit six-monthly monitoring report regarding implementation of the stipulated conditions.

APPPL's Dahej port handles multi cargo such as coal, de-oil cake, cement, steel, wheat/rice and others.
