Christchurch, New Zealand: South Africa captain A.B. de Villiers was passed fit to return against New Zealand at Hagley Oval, while rookie fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has joined up with Sri Lanka as a series of World Cup warmups got underway on Wednesday.

De Villiers complained of stiffness in one hip when he missed a rain-shortened warm-up against Sri Lanka on Monday which the Proteas won by five wickets.

Team spokesman Lerato Malekutu said de Villiers' omission was "merely a precautionary measure to ensure he doesn't suffer any further discomfort."

South Africa decided to use all 15 squad members in Wednesday's match, which is the team's last warm-up match ahead of the World Cup and is not an official one-day international.

New Zealand's Brendon McCullum won the toss and decided his team would bat on the ground on which it will play Sri Lanka in the opening World Cup match on Saturday.

South Africa begins its' Cup campaign against Zimbabwe at Hamilton on Sunday.

Chameera was called into Sri Lanka's squad Tuesday as a replacement for Dhammika Prasad, who suffered a broken hand in a training accident.

The 23-year-old Chameera played his first and only one-day international to date during Sri Lanka's recent seven-match ODI series against New Zealand, taking 2-60.

On Wednesday, Sri Lanka won the toss and batted in its final warm-up match against Zimbabwe at Christchurch's Bert Sutcliffe Oval.

Zimbabwe's Cup preparations were hampered when its warmup match against New Zealand on Monday was rained out after only 30 overs, when New Zealand was 157-7.
