New Delhi: Former Union minister Hansraj Bhardwaj has slammed his own party Congress over a number of issues including the statement of a few leaders threatening to disrupt the functioning of Parliament if no action was taken against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Congress is demanding resignation of Swaraj and Raje over the reports that they helped former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi who is facing various charges of irregularity and absconding from India.

“I don't think it is proper to take such a decision. Whoever has violated any law; the legal course must, and will, follow. But stopping the house from functioning is not good parliamentary practice,” Bhardwaj told The Indian Express.

He said Congress is in no condition to counter Narendra Modi's popularity.

“No, they are not in a fit state of health to control this powerful campaigner who is backed by a powerful cadre. That is why there was a virtual walkover in 2014,” said former Karnataka governor.

Bhardwaj added that Rahul was “also out of touch” with the ground reality.

He said, “Rahul is a young man. He has to lead the young people. But he is not in touch with the senior people, he doesn't show any inclination. So he is also out of touch.”

Bhardwaj added that nobody in the party is working to revive it after the loss in general elections last year. “Now there is no discussion. Where is the Congress today? You tell me who is working,” he said.

He hit out at party leaders like Jairam Ramesh for holding press conference over “petty issues.”

He also said that Congress has no presence in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and can not win elections there.

“You tell me how can they win in Uttar Pradesh or Bihar? There is no plan. You tell me who is doing what to revive the party?” he asked.
