New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has finally vacated his Tilak Lane government accomodation and shifted to his old flat in Kaushmambi.

The flat in Girnar Apartment has been alloted to his wife Sunita, who is senior Indian Revenue Service Officer.

She had surrendered the accommodation early this year when Kejriwal became the Chief Minister and shifted to Tilak Road.

Interestingly, it is the same “lucky” flat from where Kejriwal chalked out the strategy for the 2013 assembly polls and scripted a spectacular win and went on to form the government.

Even after resigning as the Chief Minister, he was residing in the government accommodation in Tilak Lane for some five months before moving to Kaushambi.

Party sources said that the flat was more convenient for his family, especially his parents, as they had been staying there for a long time and knew the people around.  They added that Kejriwal will also stay in the Hanuman Road office.

“Hanuman Road premises will serve as his office cum residence. More importantly, he will also stay in New Delhi assembly constituency, which he represents,” the source said.

The Hanuman Road office, a two storey structure including a terrace serves as office-cum-residence for several AAP volunteers and leaders including senior party leaders like Gopal Rai and Sanjay Singh.

Kejriwal's accommodation has always been a controversial issue. After he resigned as the Delhi Chief Minister he decided not to vacate the flat as his daughter was appearing for her Board exams.

He had informed the authorities that he would be staying there till July end and until then pay rent at a market price.

The AAP National Convenor had initially zeroed down on a residence at Civil Lines, but it got stuck in a legal tangle after which he decided to look for another house.
