PM in Kolkata for Indian Museum's bicentenary

Kolkata: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday arrived in Kolkata where he is scheduled to participate in the bicentenary celebrations of the Indian Museum Sunday.


Manmohan Singh was received at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose international airport by Governor M.K. Narayanan. He was then escorted to the Raj Bhavan.

The prime minister will inaugurate the bicentenary celebrations Sunday.

A host of dignitaries, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, are also expected to be present at the event.

The museum, under renovation, will be thrown open to the public Feb 4.

Meanwhile, the state Congress leadership is hoping to meet Manmohan Singh before he leaves for New Delhi Sunday.

"We have sought an appointment and are hopeful of meeting him," state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya told IANS.
