Bhubaneswar: T. Rasmita Patra, a housewife returning home with her husband T. Bhagaban Patra and two sons Ayushman and Roshan, on Monday fought valiantly against two robbers, snatched a pistol and forced them to flee.
The family was returning home on a moped in Purushottampur near Hinjili in Ganjam district, when two chain snatchers riding a Bajaj Pulsar bike started following them near Taratarini on the road towards Hinjili.
One of the robbers tried to snatch the gold necklace from Rasmita's neck, but the bravewoman caught hold of his hand, and gave it a jerk. Both the robbers and her husband lost their balance and fell from their two wheelers.
One of the robbers then whipped out a pistol and pointed it towards her husband's head, but the brave woman lunged towards the assailant, and snatched the pistol. The two robbers then fled, as local villagers rushed to the spot.
Rasmita later handed over the pistol at the local police station. The couple was injured in the scuffle, but is now out of danger. The robbers are still at large.
