This Is Colbert's Most Favorite 'Daily Show' Bit With Jon Stewart

He missed an early "Lord of the Rings" screening for this.

Just moments before taping in December of 2001, Stephen Colbert thought he was done for the day. With no on-screen bits to perform that night on “The Daily Show,” Colbert was free and clear to head home, or in this case, to see an early screening of “The Fellowship of the Ring.”

As a HUGE “Lord of the Rings” fan, Colbert was beside himself when the show’s producers needed him to fill in for guest Al Sharpton, who had canceled at the last minute.

And thus was born Colbert’s favorite bit with Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show”: not an impression of Sharpton, but instead Colbert simply answering the questions intended for Sharpton.
