Senator Trolls Donald Trump Over Tax Returns With Nuggets-Style Retweet Plea

A senator is taking a page from a teenager’s viral campaign playbook in his ongoing battle to get President Donald Trump to release his tax returns.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) was seemingly inspired by Nevada 16-year-old Carter Wilkerson’s mission to gain 18 million retweets in exchange for a year of free chicken nuggets from Wendy’s. He employed a similar tactic to tackle Trump Wednesday:

By early Thursday, Wyden’s lighthearted request for Trump to share his tax returns if his post gained 18 million retweets had been shared more than 11,000 times.

It’s a long way off the 2.7 million retweets of Wilkerson’s post, which is tipped to soon become the most retweeted ever:

Trump had yet to reply to Wyden’s challenge. Even if Wyden’s post did somehow achieve 18 million retweets, it’s unlikely that the president would even pay it any attention.

It has succeeded, however, in bringing the issue of Trump’s tax returns to the fore once again ― as people across the country prepare to echo the call for his disclosure during a protest titled “The Tax March” this Saturday.
