This week there were a lot of CES announcements from Dell, Harman, Lenovo, Sony, HP, Sennheiser and lots more. In India OnePlus launched the Lava Red OnePlus 5T, Samsung launched the Galaxy A8+ 2018, Smartron launched t.phone P and more.
OnePlus launched the new Lava Red color variant of the OnePlus 5T in India. This has black bezel on the front and comes with bright red finish on the back and the sides of the phone. The OnePlus 5T Lava Red version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs. 37,999 in India and will be available exclusively from Amazon.in starting from 20th January 2018 at 12PM.
Samsung launched the Galaxy A8+ (2018) smartphone in India. It packs a 6-inch Full HD+Infinity Super AMOLED 18.5:9 display, is powered by Octa-Core Exynos 7885 14nm processor, runs Android 7.1.1 (Nougat), has 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, and a 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel dual front cameras, both with f/1.9 aperture.
Dual front cameras let you switch between them for close-ups with the background to portrait shots and the Live Focus feature lets you adjust the bokeh effect before or after you take the picture. It comes with IP68 ratings for water and dust resistance and packs a 3500mAh battery with support for fast charging. It also comes with Samsung Pay.
The Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) comes in Black and Gold colors in India, is priced at Rs. 32,990 and will be available exclusively from Amazon India starting from January 20th.
Sony Mobile introduced Xperia XA2 Ultra, Xperia XA2 and Xperia L2. The XA2 Ultra comes with a 6-inch 1080p screen with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and Dual Selfie cameras with flash. It has a 16-megapixel primary front camera with OIS along with an 8-megapixel secondary camera with 120° wide-angle camera.
The XA2 has a 5.2-inch 1080p screen with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Both these are powered by Snapdragon 630 and come with a 23-megapixel rear camera with 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor, Hybrid Autofocus and LED flash. These have a 3300mAh and 3580mAh batteries,respectively with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Qnovo Adaptive Charging.
The Xperia L2 has a 5.5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, is powered by quad-core MediaTek SoC and runs on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and an 8-megapixel front camera with 120-degree super wide-angle lens. It packs a 3300mAh battery with Qnovo Adaptive Charging tech.
The XA2, XA2 Ultra and L2 are priced at $349.99 (Rs. 22,260 approx.), $449.99 (Rs. 28,620 approx.) and $249.99 (Rs. 15,900 approx.), respectively and will roll out from later this month.
Smartron launched the t.phone P, its first budget smartphone in the t.phone series with a 5000mAh battery this week. It packs a 5.2-inch 2.5D curved glass display, is powered by Snapdragon 435 with 3GB RAM, runs Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) with support for tcloud, tcare and tstore as well as tronX’s assistive and predictive AI.
It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5-megapixel front camera that also has an LED flash, comes with a metal back, has a fingerprint sensor on the back and also comes with option to charge other devices using OTG since it has a huge battery.
The Smartron t.phone P comes in Black color, is priced at Rs. 7,999 and will be available exclusively from Flipkart starting from January 17, 2018.
Centric launched L3, the company’s latest budget smartphone in India. It has a 5-inch HD 2.5D curved glass display, is powered by a quad-core MediaTek SoC, runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat), has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and an 5-megapixel font-facing camera.
It has a fingerprint sensor on the front, has dedicated dual SIM and microSD slots and has a 3050mAh battery. It comes in Quartz Grey and Raisin Black colors, is priced at Rs. 6749 and is available through offline stores.
Xiaomi launched new Qualcomm certified Quick Charge 3.0 charger in the country. This is compatible with Xiaomi own Mi MIX 2 and Mi Max 2 smartphones as well as Qualcomm’s latest two-way fast charging power banks that are Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 certified.
It has power output of 5V-3A/9V-2A/12V-1.5A and can withstand voltage surges up to 380V. It will be available from mi.com, but it is currently out of stock.
DJI introduced Osmo Mobile 2 (OM170) handheld camera stabilizer for smartphones. This has the same light-weight design that supports portrait orientation, three-axis gimbal technology, but this comes with simpler controls with zoom slider and three times longer battery life than the predecessor for more filming.
It is priced at US$129 (Rs. 8170 approx.) and will be available exclusively for pre-order at Apple.com on January 23, 2018. It will be available from dji.com, DJI Flagship Stores, and DJI Authorized Retailers starting in early February with additional availability later in February at Apple Stores in select regions worldwide.
Lenovo at the CES 2018 announced the Mirage Solo standalone Daydream VR, Mirage VR streaming camera. Unlike the regular VR, the Mirage Solo doesn’t need a smartphone. The Mirage VR camera is a point and shoot camera designed to live stream 180-degree VR video.
The Lenovo Mirage Solo, it is said that it will be priced below $400 (Rs. 25,470 approx.) and Lenovo Mirage Camera is said to be priced around $300 (Rs. 19,100 approx.). Both will start shipping from the second half of 2018.
Google in partnership with YI Technology introduced YI Horizon VR180 Camera at the CES 2018. It leverages Google’s new VR180 format so that the stereoscopic 3-D camera captures high-resolution, immersive 3D video in 5.7K resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). It also features instant in-device stitching and supports live streaming at 4k resolution. It will be available starting from the second quarter of 2018 and we should know the pricing closer to the launch.
Dell at the CES 2018 introduced a wide range of products ranging from XPS 15 2-in-1, Latitude series 2-in-1 Notebooks, Dell Cinema audio-visual experience, VR-ready Dell Inspiron Gaming Desktop.
Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 will be available in the U.S. on Dell.com from April starting at $1,299.99 (Rs.82,880 approx). The Inspiron Gaming Desktop starting at $799 (Rs. 50,980 approx.). The Dell Latitude 7490 Notebook price starts at $1,049 (Rs. 66,964 approx.), the Latitude 5490 Notebook starts at $779 (Rs. 49,722 approx.), the 7390 2-in-1 starts at $1,149 (Rs. 73,348 approx.) and the 5290 2-in-1 is starts at $899 (Rs. 57,387 approx.).
The Dell 27 Ultrathin Monitor will be available globally from Jan. 30 starting at $499.99 (Rs.31,891 approx.) for the Dell 27 Ultrathin Monitor and the Dell 24 Ultrathin Monitor starts at $299.99 (Rs.19,149 approx.).
Panasonic announced the LUMIX GH5S, its latest flagship model under LUMIX G DSLM cameras based on the Micro Four Thirds system standard. This doesn’t have 5-Axis in-body Stabilization and uses new 10.2-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor with Dual Native ISO Technology and Venus Engine that allows for a maximum 51200 ISO in high-sensitivity recording with minimal noise.
It can record Cinema 4K (4096 x 2160 resolution) video at 30 or 60 frames per second and shoot 14-bit RAW files at up to 10 frames per second. It is priced at US$2499 (Rs. 1,59,310 approx.) for the body and will be available in the U.S from end of February.
Asus at the CES 2018 introduced the new ZenBook 13, ZenBook Flip 14, ROG G703, X507, Vivo AiO V272 and Vivo AiO V222 range of Windows 10 laptops and all-in-one PCs. The company has also showcased the ASUS Windows Mixed Reality Headset.
The Zenbook 13 will be available in first-half of 2018 and the pricing will be announced at launch. The ZenBook Flip 14 will be available in March 2018 starting at $899 (Rs. 57,310 approx.). The ASUS X507, Vivo AiO V272, and Vivo AiO V222 will be available in first-half of 2018 and the pricing will be announced at launch. Finally, the ASUS Windows Mixed Reality Headset will be available in the U.S. in Q1 2018 and the pricing will be revealed later.
At the CES 2018 Motorola introduced Livermorium Slider Keyboard Moto Mod and Lenovo introduced Vital Moto Mod for the Moto Z series of smartphones. They keyboard mod was the winner of the 2017 Transform the Smartphone Challenge with Indiegogo.
The Keyboard Mod Mod will be available from Moto Store for $99 (Rs. 6,305 approx.) later this quarter. The standard version with built-in battery is priced at $199 (Rs. 12,675 approx.)and is expected to be available later this year. The Lenovo Vital Moto Mod is priced at $395 (Rs. 25,160 approx.) and will be available in April.
HTC at the CES 2018 introduced the VIVE Pro and VIVE Wireless adaptor. Also, the company has also announced a radical redesign of Viveport VR and Vive Video. These improvements bring in the much desired higher resolution, improved audio, wireless freedom, and immersive content discovery.
Lenovo at the CES 2018 partnered with Qualcomm to introduce the Miix 630 always connected 2-in-1 PC with Snapdragon 835 mobile PC platform. It is powered by the Microsoft Windows 10 S and comes with integrated 4G LTE making it a true always connected PC.
The Lenovo Miix 630 with keyboard and digital pen included starts at $799.99 (Rs.50,755 approx.) and is expected to go on sale from the 2nd quarter of 2018. The company says that it will be compatible with select local carriers.
Sony at the CES 2018 introduced BRAVIA X900F and A8F 4K HDR OLED TV series designed to deliver enhanced color, contrast, and clarity. The A8F Series range from 65″ and 55″ models OLED 4K TVs, while the X900F Series include 85”, 75″, 65″, 55″, and 49″ 4K HDR TVs.
Sony at the CES 2018 also introduced three new wireless headsets – WF-SP700N truly wireless earbuds, WI-SP600N and WI-SP500 in-ear headphones also introduced MDR-1AM2 wired headphones. Both the WF-SP700N and WI-SP600N come with with support for noise-canceling technology blocks out distractions to keep you focused, while Ambient Sound Mode lets you enjoy your music and still hear your surroundings.
Sony also announced the SRS-XB41, SRS-XB31, and SRS-XB21 EXTRA BASS wireless speakers. These speakers come with extra bass sound and Live Sound mode and the company promoting them as party speakers thanks to their portability. The SRS-XB41 speaker is priced at $249.99 (Rs.15,925 approx.). The SRS-XB31 speaker costs $149.99 (Rs. 9,555 approx.).The SRS-XB21 speaker is priced at $99.99 (Rs.6,370 approx.) all the three speakers will be available from Spring 2018.
JBL introduced the new Everest series wireless headphones with Google Assistant and Run, Sprint, Jump, Dive and Reflect in-ear sports earphones. The Everest line-up includes 710GA, 310GA, and 110GA.
HP at the CES 2018 introduced a wide range of products including the Spectre x360 15, ENVY x2, Z 3D Camera, Pavilion Wave, OMEN Game Stream, OMEN X 65 Big Format Gaming Display with NVIDIA G-SYNC. HP claims that the Spectre x360 15 is the world’s most powerful convertible PC and the HP ENVY x2 is aimed at offering long battery life.
It also introduced 14 G5 and 11 G6 Chromebook Education edition and Chromebox G2 desktop a successor to the 2014 HP Chromebox. The Chromebooks are upgraded to the 7th Generations Intel Celeron N series N3350 or N3450.
Sennheiser introduced new CX 6.00BT, the company’s latest Bluetooth wireless headset and HD 820 premium closed-back headphones. The CX 6.00BT features ear-canal earbuds joined by a cable around the neck for a lightweight design, superior fit and comfort. The Sennheiser HD 820 closed-back dynamic stereo headphones have unique glass transducer cover that minimizes resonances and for realistic and natural sound field.
The Sennheiser CX 6.00BT is priced at $99 (Rs. 6,280 approx.) and will roll out starting this month.The Sennheiser HD 820 costs whopping €2,399 (Rs. 1,52,420 approx.) in Europe or $2,399.95 (Rs. 1,82,400 approx.) in the US and is already available for pre-order.
Garmin introduced the first smartwatch that lets you store music for offline listening. It can store up to 500 songs so that you can connect a Bluetooth headset and play them when you are working out, without the need of a smartphone. The The Forerunner 645 Music comes with a black or cerise band and is available at a suggested retail price of $449.99 (Rs. 28580 approx.). Garmin also announced the Garmin Speak Plus with Amazon Alexa, built-in dash cam for vehicles. In addition to the newly integrated dash cam, it can automatically record and save files when an incident is detected. It costs $229.99 (Rs. 14,605 approx.) and will be available to customers starting mid-February through Garmin, Best Buy, Amazon and other retailers. The company is offering a special limited time pre-order price of $199.99 (Rs. 12,700 approx) which will be available from Jan. 8 to Feb. 10.
