Weekly Roundup: Xiaomi Redmi 4, Nokia 3310, HTC U11, OPPO A77 and more


Xiaomi Redmi 4 -9

This week, Xiaomi launched Redmi 4 in India, Nokia 3310 is now available in the country, HTC announced U11 smartphone, Moto C and Moto C Plus were also announced. Let’s take a quick look at all the launches and announcements that took place this week.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 -1

Xiaomi launched Redmi 4 in India this week. It packs a 5-inch HD 2.5D curved glass display, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 435 SoC, has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Even though it runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) based MIUI 8, it is offering beta test of Android 7.0 (Nougat) out of the box.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes in Gorgeous Black and Elegant gold colors in India, is priced at Rs. 6999 for the 2GB RAM with 16GB storage version, 3GB RAM with 32GB storage version costs Rs. 8,999 and the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage version costs Rs. 10,999. It will be available from 23rd May, 12 noon on Mi.com and Amazon.in. You can also get the phone from Mi Home in Bengaluru from today, May 20th.

Xiaomi Mi Router 3C

Xiaomi launched Mi Router 3C, its first budget router in India. It was introduced in China a few months back. It is a 802.11 b/g/n single-band router with 4 copper antennas, two to transmit and two to receive and supports upto 300Mbps transmission speed.

The Xiaomi Mi Router 3C comes in white color, is priced at Rs. 1,199 and will be available from mi.com starting May 23rd 12 noon. It will be available from Flipkart and Amazon.in from June 8th.

Nokia launched 3310 phone in India, couple of weeks after it started shipping the phone.  It has a 2.4 inch QGVA color display with polarized layer that claims to offer better sunlight visibility. It has a 2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash light that acts as torch and brings back nostalgia with the most popular game Snake.

The Nokia 3310 comes in Warm Red and Yellow with a gloss finish, and Dark Blue and Grey with a matte finish, is priced at Rs. 3310 and is now available across mobile stores in India.

Lenovo launched Lenovo Legion Y520 and Y720 gaming laptops in the country. Both the laptops are equipped with up to 7th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU and the latest NVIDIA graphics cards.  Lenovo claims the Y720 is the world’s first Dolby Atmos Windows based laptop that sports an all metal build. It comes with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics that makes it India’s first Oculus certified VR-ready laptop.

The Legion Y520and Legion Y720 laptops start at Rs. 92,490 and Rs. 1,49,990 respectively and are now available for pre-booking in India. They will be available online through Flipkart and the www.thedostore.com.

Samsung Z4

Samsung launched Z4, a budget Tizen OS smartphone running the latest Tizen OS 3.0 in India. It has a 4.5-inch WVGA  2.5D curved glass display, is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, has a 5-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash arranged on either sides of the camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash for taking better selfies in low lighting conditions. The Samsung Z4 comes in gold color in India, is priced at Rs. 5,790, and is available in mobile stores across India.

Meizu M5

Meizu launched M5 smartphone in India. It packs a 5.2-inch HD 2.5D curved glass screen, is powered by a 1.5 GHz octa-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6750 processor and runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) based FlyMe OS. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) that lets you focus in just 0.2 seconds and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It also has a mTouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button.

The Meizu M5 comes in Champanage Gold and Sapphire Blue colors in India, is priced at Rs. 9,499 and is available exclusively from Tatacliq.com.

Bose SoundLink Revolve and SoundLink Revolve plus

Bose launched new SoundLink Revolve and SoundLink Revolve+ portable Bluetooth speakers that promise true omni-directional performance with 360 degree sound. These feature an IPX4-rating to withstand spills, rain, and pool splashes; and rugged durability to survive dings, drops, and bumps.

The SoundLink Revolve and SoundLink Revolve+ Bluetooth speakers come in Triple Black and Lux Gray colors and are priced at Rs. 19,900 and Rs. 24,500, respectively. These are already available for order from Amazon.in and will be available from Bose stores, Bose.com and authorized Bose dealers starting May 26, 2017.
Samsung Galaxy J3 2017

Samsung announced Galaxy J3 (2017), the company’s latest budget smartphone in the U.S. for AT&T. It was introduced as Galaxy S3 Emerge for Sprint earlier this year and packs a 5-inch HD display, is powered by a quad-core Exynos 7570 14nm processor, has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) compared to Marshmallow on the Sprint version.

Huawei Y7

Huawei unveiled Y7, the company’s latest budget smartphone in the ‘Y Series’. It was introduced as Enjoy 7 Plus in China recently, has a 5.5-inch HD 2.5D curved glass screen, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 435 Mobile platform, runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) with EMUI 5.1, has a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, PDAF for quick 0.3-second focus and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The Huawei Y7 comes in Grey, Prestige Gold and Silver colors. No details about the price or rollout details yet.

HTC announced U11 smartphone that comes with Edge Sensor for new squeeze interaction that lets you launch the camera, send text messages, open email or customize it to launch any application. It also lets you activate advanced touch and use a “short squeeze” as well as a “squeeze and hold” for even more functionality. It has 5.5-inch Quad HD 3D glass screen on the front and 3D glass on the back as well. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, has 12MP rear camera, 16MP front camera.

The HTC U11 comes in Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue, Brilliant Black, Ice White, and Solar Red, and will start rolling out in select countries from next week and will be available worldwide from June, 2017.

Moto C Plus

Motorola announced the Moto C and Moto C Plus budget smartphones. The entry-level Moto C comes with a 5-inch FWVGA screen and in 3G and 4G versions, while the Moto C Plus packs a 5-inch HD screen and comes in 1GB RAM and 2GB RAM versions. Both the smartphones run Android 7.0 (Nougat), are powered by MediaTek SoCs, come with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash and have micro-textured back cover.

Oppo A77

OPPO announced selfie-focused A77 smartphone in the ‘A series’ in Taiwan. It has similar specifications as the OPPO F3 that includes a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Octa-Core MediaTek MT6750T processor, runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with ColorOS 3.0, but this has a single 16-megapixel sensor on the front instead of dual front cameras on the F3. It still offers background blur to create depth of field effect along with selfie timer. It also has a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF, fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button and a 3200mAh built-in battery.

Xiaomi Mi TV 4 65-inch

Xiaomi launched Mi TV 4 series in China that come in 49-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch sizes and have 4K panel with support for HDR. These have a 4.9mm slim frameless design and the top-end 65-inch model also comes with Dolby Atmos audio technology with 2 up-firing speakers, that are basically pointed at the ceiling which reflects the sound to provide a 3-dimensional experience.
