Huawei Kirin 960 Octa-Core 16nm SoC with Mali-G71 MP8 GPU announced

Huawei has announced Kirin 960 SoC, it’s top-end SoC at an event in Beijing today. It is an Octa-Core SoC with four ARM Cortex A73 Cores that can be clocked up to 2.4GHz and four ARM Cortex A53 Cores that can be clocked up to 1.8 GHz. It has support for Cat 12 LTE for downloads and Cat 13 LTE for uploads and is built on 16nm FinFET process.

Huawei used Mali T880 GPU  for the Kirin 950 and 955 SoCs, this has more powerful Mali-G71 MP8 GPU. Huawei says that this will offer up to 15% better performance, up to 180% better GPU performance and 20% better energy efficiency compared to Kirin 950. It also has a security engine with new 3-tier security system for financial industry standard encryption.

Huawei did not say when the Kirin 960 is expected, but it will likely debut with the Mate 9 that is expected to be introduced in Germany on November 3rd.
