Huawei Kirin 920 Octa-Core SoC with Mali T628 GPU announced

Huawei has just announced Kirin 920 SoC at an event in Beijing. It is an Octa-Core SoC with four ARM Cortex A15 Cores that can be clocked up to 2 GHz and four ARM Cortex A7 Cores that can be clocked up to 1.6 GHz. It is based on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture so it can alternate between the Cortex A7 or A15 cores depending on the type of tasks. It has support for Category 6 LTE networks and is built on 28nm HPM process.

Huawei used Mali-450 GPU for both the Kirin 910 and the 910T SoCs, the Kirin 920 SoC uses more powerful Mali T628 MP4 GPU.

  • Supports display resolution of up to 2560 x 1600 pixels
  • Up to 20MP camera image signal processor (ISP), 480 Mpixels/s capture rate
  • 4K Ultra HD video recording at 30fps, H.265 codec
  • IntelliSense I3 for low-power operation when gathering data from accelerometer, gyroscope, compass etc.
  • Integrated Multi-mode 4G LTE Modem – Category 6 FDD / TDD
  • TD-LTE/LTE FDD / TD-SCDMA / WCDMA / GSM
  • SGLTE/CSFB/VoLTE

It is not clear when the chip would be commercially available. It is likely to be used in Huawei upcoming flagship smartphone codenamed Huawei Mulan.
