Who doesn’t love a good optical illusion? Even better if it’s from someone like MC Escher.
But what if you run into a similar real life optical illusion down the road?
Something similar happened to Reddit user ‘zibin’ when he captured a seemingly impossible construction scene.
The image shows a pair of construction workers repairing a bridge - but the perspective of the photo makes it appear like a real-life version of an MC Escher drawing.
The post made it to the front page of the Reddit and while most users were experiencing a brain freeze, user ‘MrDLTE3’ came to the rescue .
The explanation, as it often turns out, is quite simple.
The lift, having a crane arm that can move horizontally in addition to simply up and down, makes the lift part of the crane appear closer to the photographer, creating the illusion.
Explained further in this beautiful illustration.
Impossible illusions have been attempted in the past (as much as they can be), most recently by none other than director Christopher Nolan for his movie ‘Inception’, for which he too took inspiration from MC Escher himself.
